ABOUT US

GENERAL INFORMATION
The Chapel at Kingsmill is a non-denominational church.  We are an autonomous church body and not affiliated with any denomination or other church hierarchy.  Theologically and operationally, we fit squarely within the mainstream of the historic evangelical tradition.  As can be seen from our Vision and Beliefs, we are committed to trying to follow the New Testament teachings regarding the way a church should function and operate.  On the other hand we want to be apply those teachings to the milieu in which we find ourselves: in Kingsmill, in Williamsburg, in Virginia, in the United States, and in the 21st century.  We want to be grounded in the eternal truths of the Bible, but at the same time, relevant to the needs of our time and culture.

OUR HISTORY
The Chapel at Kingsmill was started in 1987 by residents of Kingsmill. Because most of the early attendees came from a military background, it was operated on the military chapel model, with visiting preachers (mostly retired military chaplains).  The church experienced little growth during those years.  In August, 2002, Brian and Tina Christie were called to lead the church. Under their ministry the church developed and is implementing the Vision set forth below.  The Christie's then relocated to California, and Roy and Sandy Gerardi became our new pastor-and-wife team.  The church is now growing and well on its way to being a vibrant and dynamic community of faith.

OUR VISION
This is the vision that we believe that God has given us for our church:
.    To be a fellowship growing in Christ together with our fellow believers by
building each other up in love (Ephesians 4:11-16).
.    To reach out compassionately with the good news of Jesus Christ, both
locally and globally, bringing new believers into the fellowship of the
     church (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8).

OUR VALUES
Following the Biblical model (e.g. Acts 2:38-47), we believe that our vision can best be brought to reality by providing a healthy balance of the following four vital Christian experiences:
·   Teaching – We are committed to the historic, evangelical, Christian
truths of the Bible and to teaching the whole Bible, in large groups and
small groups, as the primary means of equipping our believers for the
work of service and for the building up of the body of Christ with the
goal of attaining unity, knowledge of the Son of God, and maturity that
is measured by the fullness of Christ.
·   Fellowship – We are committed to providing ways and means of
developing meaningful fellowship among our believers - caring for and
loving one another, stimulating and encouraging each other to lead
    healthy spiritual lives.
·   Outreach – We are committed to participate in evangelism in our local
community and around the world and to encourage and train God’s
people to have an effective influence and loving ministry in various
    contexts.
·   Worship and Prayer – We are committed to provide for meaningful
worship and prayer and to administer the ordinances of water baptism
and the Lord’s Supper for those who care to participate.

OUR BELIEFS
We accept the following basic biblical Articles of Faith:
·   The Trinity: God exists in three, eternal, coequal persons- the Father, the
    Son, and the Holy Spirit.
·   The person of Christ: Undiminished deity (true God) and complete
humanity are united forever in one, sinless, virgin-born person - the Lord
    Jesus Christ.
·   The work of Christ: The death of Christ served as a perfect, God-
satisfying, substitute payment of the penalty for the sins of the world.
His bodily resurrection guarantees eternal life for all who believe in Him.
·   Personal salvation: One can be assured of God’s forgiveness and
deliverance from eternal separation from God in hell and receive the
hope of eternal life only through personal trust in the Lord Jesus Christ
and acceptance of God’s free gift of life through Christ.
·   Revelation: God has revealed Himself and His will through the divinely
    inspired Scriptures.

OUR PASTOR
We have enjoyed the leadership and excellent teachings of Roy Gerardi since he became our pastor in early 2005.

Roy was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, and graduated from the University
of Maryland in 1981 with a B.S. in Health Science.  He then joined the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ and served on the campuses of University of Minnesota, Oregon State University, and the College of William and Mary, where he directed the ministry from 1987 to 1993.  In 1994 he earned his Masters of Divinity degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, located in Deerfield, Illinois.  Roy and his wife Sandy returned to Virginia and worked throughout the state as Director of New Works with Campus Crusade for Christ.  In June of 2000, Roy and Sandy started Cornerstone Community Church in Toano where he pastored for three years.

Roy and Sandy, and their four children - Lauren, Brooke, David, and Olivia - live
in James City County.

Please join us on Sunday mornings at the Wareham's Pond Recreation Center in Kingsmill.
